It means believing that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, sent by God to redeem the relationship between people and God. Humanity was separated from God by the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). Since then, every human being has sinned and been separated from God. (Ecclesiastes  7:20, Romans 3:23)

God sent his only son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sin. Jesus willingly became that sacrifice and dies on the cross for our sin. On the third day he was resurrected from the grave, as the Christ follower will also be resurrected into eternal life.

When you decide to give your life to Christ, you are choosing to follow Him and stop following your own way. Jesus becomes the ruler, or Lord, of your life. The Bible says “if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified , and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

That confession comes in the form of a prayer to God. Here’s a sample of a prayer, which is simply saying words to God.

God, I admit that I am a sinner, that I have missed the mark of who you want me to be. I ask for your forgiveness of my sins.  I thank you for sending Jesus to earth to die on a cross for my sins. I hand over my life to you, for you to direct my life from this point forward. I ask you to help me become a new person, the person you created me to be. Amen

When you sincerely say that prayer, you are now a Christ follower! Congratulations!!!

You receive the Holy Spirit the moment you make Jesus the Lord of your life; it’s instantaneous. The Holy Spirit is given to us for comfort, to teach us God’s Word, to guide us in our decisions, and in those moments in prayer when we are lost for words, the Spirit prays to God the Father for us. Romans 8:26-27

Now that you’re a Christ follower, you begin a lifelong journey toward God and becoming the person He created you to be. Your relationship with God will grow and change as you do, yet there are a few basics with which you can start.

Worship. Regularly gathering with other Christ followers to worship God is critical for spiritual growth. Through the songs, the teaching of God’s Word, and gathering together, we remember and declare God’s goodness while learning and growing closer to Him. Hebrews 10:24-25

Bible Reading and Small Group. Reading the Bible is another way we grow closer to God. Reading and studying the Bible with others is even better. God has called us to do life together, and we’re convinced that a strong, vibrant spiritual life includes strong, intentional community,

Make a Difference. God has given each of us gifts and talents to make a difference in people’s lives both within the church and in our communities. Serving others can help us connect with God’s purpose in how He uniquely made us.

Baptism itself is an outward sign of an inward change. It’s a sign for you, your church, your family and your friends, that you have given your life over to Jesus, for him to lead. It announces that you are now a follower of Christ to your community!

And at PCC, we love to celebrate decisions to follow Christ! Whether you accepted Christ today, in recent months, or a long time ago, we want to create a special and meaningful time for your outward expression of this inward decision.

We do this through our annual baptisms in June and September each year. Each is truly a big party and we invite you to be a part of it!
